Increased emphasis is being placed on fire protection technology in connection with vehicle survivability on the battlefield. The Fire Cap™ heat shielding system is a passive technology designed specifically for heat and flame-exposed surfaces, including fuel cells and critical structural substrates. The Fire Cap™ system is an effective and economical technology that provides the user life-saving time when exposed to extreme persistent heat or flames.
The Fire Cap™ heat shielding system has various applications due to its ability to perform as an insulator, keeping the heat from transferring to the vessel from the outside. Common uses have been seen in the following:
- Fuel tanks
- Wheel wells
- Structural support beams

The Fire Cap™ heat shielding system is designed to passively protect the fuel cell from a persistent 2500°F flame for up to 20 minutes. Its ability to withstand this direct flame and heat allows adequate time for other automated and/or manual methods to extinguish the direct threat. For example, by protecting the vehicle fuel tank from extreme heat, like a pool or tire fire, the vehicle is able to continue mission, where an exposed fuel cell would create a critical hazard for explosion, and endanger the vehicle and crew.
