Undercarriage blast mitigation is a constant concern to military personnel while traversing hostile roadways. Until now, it has been difficult to add this necessary protection for combat support vehicles like the HEMTT without time-consuming and expensive alterations to the vehicle. High Impact Technology, LLC has been able to engineer an underbelly armored protection system that provides superior crew survivability while drastically reducing the chassis weight compared to current variants, and at a much lower cost.
This kit is designed to be mounted directly to the frame rails of a vehicle with simple hand tools and two personnel, in less than a hour.The ASP™ system will maintain function after multiple impacts. If damaged, the kit can be replaced in a Level II motor pool facility within two hours, allowing the vehicle to return to mission-capable status.
The ASP™ system is a stratigraphic column incorporating a series of high-hard steel plates in combination with energy and blast wave absorbing synthetic strata that redirect energy and shrapnel produced from improvised explosive devices (IED’s).
The ASP™ system has been tested and characterized at the vehicle test facility at Aberdeen Proving Grounds, and additional verification tests are expected. Independent blast testing was conducted at Oregon Ballistic Laboratories. Each prototype kit will undergo additional testing and characterization based on fit and function during the optimization process.
